Background: Employee satisfaction and organizational commitment are important factors influencing the efficiency and sustainability of healthcare services. In hospital settings, pharmacy professionals play a crucial role in ensuring effective drug delivery services, which directly affect patient care and treatment outcomes. Previous studies have explored job satisfaction and organizational commitment among pharmacists and healthcare professionals in different healthcare systems. However, these studies primarily focus on individual organizational outcomes such as job performance, turnover intention, and employee retention rather than examining their implications for hospital drug delivery services. The existing literature also indicates that most studies are conducted in public healthcare institutions and in international contexts, while limited attention has been given to private hospital settings.
Objective: Therefore, this review paper aims to synthesize existing literature on employee satisfaction and organizational commitment among pharmacy professionals and examine their potential influence on drug delivery services in hospital environments.
Methodology: The study adopts a secondary data–based narrative review approach by analyzing previously published research articles related to pharmacy professionals, employee satisfaction, organizational commitment, and healthcare service delivery.
Findings: The review highlights the importance of a satisfied and committed pharmacy workforce in improving the efficiency, coordination, and reliability of drug delivery services in hospitals. The findings suggest that organizational support, effective communication, and a positive work environment significantly contribute to higher employee satisfaction and commitment, which may ultimately enhance the quality and timeliness of drug delivery processes.
Conclusion: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by integrating organizational behavior concepts with pharmaceutical service delivery and provides insights for hospital administrators and healthcare managers to strengthen pharmacy workforce management in private healthcare institutions, particularly in Kolkata.
